George Henare CNZM OBE is a legendary Māori actor and singer whose career has shaped theatre, film, television, and music in Aotearoa for more than five decades.
He has performed leading roles in New Zealand and internationally, from Shakespeare to musicals, and in works such as Purapurawhetū, Once Were Warriors, Xena: Warrior Princess, and The Lion King. A celebrated voice artist and performer, he is renowned for his versatility and powerful presence.
Honoured as both an Officer and Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit, George Henare is recognised as a pioneer and one of the great kaumātua of the performing arts in Aotearoa.
