Matthew McIntyre Wilson is an artist, weaver, and jeweller known for incorporating customary Māori weaving techniques and patterns into contemporary jewellery and craft objects made of metal. McIntyre-Wilson received a Certificate in Craft and Design from Whitireia Polytechnic in 1992 and a Diploma in Visual Arts from Hawke's Bay Polytechnic in 1996. However, he credits tohunga raranga [master weaver] Rangi Kiu with introducing him to traditional Māori weaving techniques. He has researched the complexity, beauty, and whakapapa of Māori woven taonga in museum collections, with a view to restoring traditional practices. His work includes kete, armbands, kākahu, tātua, and hīnaki, and has been exhibited in galleries in New Zealand and overseas.
