Rangi Kipa is a multidisciplinary Māori artist known for his pioneering work in customary and contemporary Māori art forms. In 2000, Kipa returned to Taranaki and became a founding member of Te Uhi ā Mataora, the national collective dedicated to the revival and development of tā moko. Kipa’s practice expanded into large-scale sculpture and installation through the Master of Māori Visual Arts programme. Throughout his career, Kipa has forged a distinctive practice grounded in Māori language systems, customary materials, and carving techniques—reimagined in contemporary contexts to sustain and evolve the kōrero between past and present.
