This Pūeru Paetara was woven with aroha to honour whakapapa, beginning with the separation of Ranginui and Papatūānuku — the foundation of all creation. The concept of this piece draws on Hinātore, the first light that pierced the darkness, calling Tāne Mahuta forward and bringing life into the world. This whakaaro is carried throughout the weave. Woven within the piece are selected whakairo that hold specific meaning. Whakapūareare reflects enlightenment and the opening of awareness. Poutama represents the ongoing journey and the path ahead. Whakatūtū speaks to standing strong, while Niho acknowledges my whakapapa to Ngāti Maniapoto. The kōrari is used as a representation of Io, the source of creation, adding another layer of meaning to the overall narrative.
